The Blesma photography group would like to thank the Jockey Club for supporting this most welcome initiative to allow Blesma members the opportunity to take Equine photographs. This is really very much appreciated and will make a difference to all participants.
The purpose of these two photography days described below is to introduce members to another challenging category of photography, that of equine photography, which could also be classed as nature and or sports photography. This is with a view to also challenging any member attending to submit up to 3 off photographs based around one of the themed areas allowed and which are shown below. Any shortlisted photographs will ultimately be shown as part of an exhibition on Grand Military Day at Sandown Race Course on 9th March 2018.
There will be up to 10 members places available each day plus and or including a single point of contact. The two dates available are Friday 15th September 2017 (Gates open at 11:45AM and the first race is at 1:45PM with the last race at 5:15PM) and Wednesday 20th September 2017 (Gates open at 12 Noon and the first race is at 2:05PM with the last race at 5:30PM).
We anticipate demand for blue badge parking so we need to book early and or coordinate to ensure everyone attending has easy access from their car to the race course. There are well established disabled facilities and access at Sandown Park Race Course. For further information please see disabled access
It is expected that aside from the excitement around taking equine photographs, that given the range of environments from the parade ring, winning enclosures and the race course and race itself, that photographers will also be exposed to a variety of spontaneous moments and have to work in an environment that hopefully provide for a range of surprises and unexpected developments.
We envisage meeting early on the day in order to allow the on-site professional photographer (John) to give attendees a short tour of the best viewing platforms and places as well as letting members in on a few photography tips.
Whilst taking photographs, photographers should consider and have in mind the following themes in order to submit up to 3 photographs as part of the purpose highlighted above:
1. Power / Speed
2. Elegance / Beauty
3. Atmosphere / Relationships
4. Spontaneous moments
Each attendee will then have until 5PM on Friday 17th November 2017 to submit up to 3 off photographs being specific about which area that they would wish each photograph to be considered in.
All photographs will then be considered by Blesma Ambassador, Marcus Lyon in order to announce a short list of 3 photographs within each theme (a maximum of 12). These short listed photographs will be put forward for display on Grand Military Day along with a short biography of the photographer (a couple of sentences maximum) and will then be judged on the day by representatives of BLEMSA, the Jockey Club and Military officials. Winners obviously get the kudos of winning and will hopefully enjoy recognition in BLESMAG if not beyond.
Specific details will be sent to successful members nearer the time. All photographers attending will have to sign a form entitled Permission to enter Sandown Park Racecourse with high-quality photography equipment, which basically says that any photographs taken cannot be used for commercial purposes and or gain.
